5 DIY Art Ideas for Under $50

If you’re looking for ways to spruce up your space, art is a great way to do it! If you don’t want to spend a fortune on gallery art, here are 5 DIY art ideas that look awesome, are totally original, and won’t break the bank. I’ve provided links to more detailed posts on each project and to as many products as possible!
Idea 1: Framed Fabric
There’s some really beautiful fabric out there but it can get pricey fairly quickly. I skip the fabric store whenever possible opting instead for curtain panels, shower curtains, even placemats. The choices are endless and the pricing is low! This project is as easy as finding the fabric, cut to size, frame, and hang! This is DIY even for the non-DIYer— read about this similar project!

Idea 2: Decal Canvas Art
Here is a great concept that can be applied to walls and canvas. We love it because once you’ve put it on, it’s there forever! Paint your background color, place your decal, paint the finish color, and remove! Voila!
Decal is on the wall and being painted over.
Project complete!

Idea 3: Personalized Pictures
Ansel Adams has gorgeous pictures but they’ll never hold a candle to your personal memories! Next time you find yourself overlooking a gorgeous cliff or watching a beautiful sunset, remove the people and capture the scene! There’s more than a few choices for companies to use to get your photos resized, or even placed on canvas. We love Snapfish and Easy Canvas Prints for their prices and ease of their processes. Once you have them, frame them, mount them, and enjoy!

Idea 4: Lattice Art
If you want to step away from framed art/pictures, one great idea is to use PVC panels to create a wall feature. We’ve personally used panels from My Overlays and these Acurio Lattice Panels sold via Home Depot. The are both lightweight and can be spray painted any color to match your decor. We installed them with trim nails and the we’ve had great responses to the idea! Both My Overlays and the Acurio panels offer a ton of different options and sizes!

Idea 5: Decorative Wall Peel Project
Every so often instead of highlighting the art sculptures that go on your shelves, we say, let the shelf itself become the art! Great Big Canvas sells every single art piece they offer in the form of a ‘wallpeel’ also known as a giant sticker! Here we took the wall peel and placed it on the back of the shelf. All of the sudden it becomes a whole lot more of an interesting piece.
